Darren Fletcher hits out at Man Utd fans and makes transfer declaration

Darren Fletcher has suggested that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United rebuild will take time and has slammed the “short-termism” of some supporters.

A portion of United fans have become increasingly frustrated with the club’s transfer policy, with just one arrival so far in the summer window.

Donny van de Beek scored on his debut for the Red Devils, but that came in a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener.

Former player Patric Evra slammed Old Trafford bosses for their actions in the window claiming there was an “arrogant” element to their dealings.

Donny van de Beek is United’s only senior signing in the window so far

In a lengthy social media rant, he said: “When we want a player and they cost say £20m, we end up trying to buy him for £100m. Now those players don’t even want our money anymore.

“A sporting director from a top football club called me and asked me to tell Matthew Judge to answer his phone.

“The club needs to stop being so arrogant. There are certain people at the club right now that don’t even respect Sir Alex Ferguson.”

But Evra’s former teammate Fletcher, appearing as part of Sky Sports’ coverage of United’s Carabao Cup clash with Luton, said he would be happy with the window – as long as Solskjaer’s input was being trusted.

Ole Gunanr Solskjae hopes to bring in some new recruits in the final weeks of the window

“As long as the board are listening and trusting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I’m happy with whatever the transfer market may be for the next few weeks,” he said prior to kick off at Kenilworth Road.

Despite the defeat to Palace, Solskjaer made 10 changes for the game with the Hatters, a clear sign to Fletcher that he will not panic in his quest to rebuild the playing squad.

He added: “Too many [Utd] fans are short termist and reactionary. Ole would have picked this lineup before the Palace game and he’s stuck to his guns. It’s all about the long term for him.”
