Trent Alexander-Arnold loves a goal against Chelsea

[ad_1]

It really is a Super Sunday – with the first blockbuster showdown of the season at Stamford Bridge, Spurs heading back from Bulgaria to the south coast, two of the most distant teams in the PL going head to head on Tyneside and Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester entertaining Burnley.

All four Sunday fixtures are previewed, with odds and recommended tips for every one.

Southampton vs Tottenham – 12pm BT Sports 1 HD

Both sides will building on their frustration to improve following disappointing opening weekend matches.

Southampton will be expecting much more from the likes of Danny Ings and Che Adams who are 15/4 and 15/2 to score first with thepools.com respectively.

Spurs will be expecting a similar reaction from their forwards too.

Harry Kane is 4/1 to score first while Son Heung-Min and Steven Bergwijn are 11/2 and 7/1.

Despite a long trip to Bulgaria in the Europa League, you can expect Jose Mourinho to have faith in most of the midweek line-up, especially in attack.

Kane was on target in Bulgaria on Thursday – will he be able to produce the goals again at St Mary’s?

But fatigue could be an issue for Spurs so we expect more defensive slip ups. Both teams to score and either team to win at 13/8 seems appealing.

While thepools.com are offering a generous 15/8 for Hugo Lloris to keep a clean sheet, the Frenchman only kept six clean sheets last season, which is poor from a World Cup winning goalkeeper so no clean sheet at 4/11 seems a good place to start.

Recommended bets

  • Both teams to score and either team to win 13/8
  • Harry Kane to score first 4/1

Newcastle vs Brighton – 2pm, Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports PL

Brighton will be pleased with their solid performance in the League Cup – a test of their depth and ability to command a healthy lead.

However, history suggests we should not be expecting another goal fest – despite the results this weekend so far!

The last six meetings have seen both sides win 1-0 one apiece, drawn 0-0 three times and 1-1 once.

So under 1.5 goals at 17/10 with thepools.com looks like a promising start.

Both sides will have League Cup action in mind and while heavy squad rotation will feature, another match in three days time is not ideal for either side.

New striker Callum Wilson has started off well with a goal on his debut against West Ham and will be looking for more, so he’s promising to score first at 11/2.

Another stalemate or will Callum Wilson produce the goods again?

However, Brighton have the boost of Ben White to join Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster if all goes to plan.

However Adam Lallana remains doutbful and with Alexis Mac Allister, Pascal Gross and Alireza Jahanbakhsh playing against Pompey earlier in the week, they are limited to just Yves Bissouma to support Neal Maupay (5/1 to score first and/or Aaron Connolly (7/1) for creativity. That is a very limited attacking approach for Brighton.

Expect the Magpies and Seagulls to take a point a piece this weekend – 0-0 at 13/2.

Chelsea vs Liverpool – 4.30pm, Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports PL

You can’t get a bet on Thiago Alcantara or Diogo Jota scoring the first goal at Stamford Bridge … yet, but there are plenty of other goalscorer options for the first blockbuster showdown of the season.

Because the bookies are convinced we’re going to see goals on Sunday.

Over 2.5 goals is a measly 8/13 with thepools.com . Over 3.5 is better at 6/4 , and that looks tempting.

Because Liverpool shared seven goals with Leeds on the opening Premier League weekend.

Chelsea’s opening match against Brighton featured four – and the last time these two sides met in July they shipped eight goals between them, Liverpool winning 5-3.

Since then Chelsea have added the attacking potency of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech, while Liverpool have strengthened in key creative areas too.

Timo Werner is relishing the chance to play against Liverpool. Will he be the difference for Frank Lampard’s side?

Liverpool are favourites to repeat last season’s win at The Bridge, and a price of 6/5 with thepools.com are odds you don’t see too often for the champions.

Liverpool’s recent league record at the Bridge is superb, losing on just one of their last six visits.

Chelsea are 2/1 , again a big price for Chelsea at home.

Both teams to score has come up in 11 of the last 14 meetings between these sides so no surprise that that’s a heavily odds on 8/15 shout .

But Liverpool to win and BTTS is a very, very appealing looking 5/2 .

Mo Salah, predictably, heads the first scorer betting market at 10/3 ( Evens anytime )

But Sadio Mane offers better value at 9/2 and 7/5 .

But for a decent long-odds option, Trent Alexander-Arnold is 14/1 first goal and 5/1 any time , and twice celebrated against Chelsea last season.

Liverpool averaged 6.5 corners against Chelsea last term, kicked off this season with nine corners last weekend, Chelsea just three, and finished second in the PL corner winning table last season to Man City (Chelsea were third, 257 to 247).

Liverpool are Evens to win the Match Corner bet . (Corners Handicap on thepools.com).

Leicester vs Burnley – 7pm BBC1

The flying Foxes made a winning start last weekend, while Burnley had to wait until midweek to kick-off their campaign with a Carabao Cup win against Sheffield United.

This is likely to be a tight affair.

There was little between these sides last term, with Leicester winning 2-1 at the King Power and Burnley getting their revenge by the same score at Turf Moor.

Chris Wood is 23/10 to score anytime at the King Power Stadium

Leicester are made 8/13 favourites with thepools.com with Burnley a big 9/2 . The draw is also a great price at 3/1 ( 4/1 if you fancy a draw and BTTS ).

The last 10 meetings have produced three Clarets victories, four Foxes wins and three draws.

Over 2.5 goals has come up in the last three meetings of these sides and that’s a 19/20 call.

Jamie Vardy is predictably 23/10 first scorer , but Chris Wood scored in both fixtures last season and is 13/2 first scorer and 23/10 any time .

Recommended Bet

Chris Wood first scorer 13/2
