ITV bosses are splurging millions to renovate the derelict Welsh castle into an I’m A Celebrity TV set, and there’s one major change that nobody could have seen coming.

As we look forward to the long-awaited return of the 20th season of hit reality show, viewers can prepare themselves for some major changes including an indoor campsite.

In order to make 19th century Gwrych Castle, at Abergele in North Wales, safe for the stars, producers have had to alter the usual plans.

In an unexpected turn of events, the renovated castle, which has been hired for over £1million for six weeks as an alternative to the Australian jungle, will have a roof where the celebs will sleep under for the first time ever.

In previous series, stars including Jacqueline Jossa and Roman Kemp had to grin and bear the turbulent weather changes and bat away crawling insects from their makeshift beds in the sprawling jungle.

This year, the lucky celeb’s will be treated to a roof which will keep them warm and dry while battling the harsh Welsh winter.

Speaking to The Sun, a source revealed that telly bosses had to add a roof to the makeshift campsite, otherwise this year’s line-up of stars would be even more miserable than usual due to the bitter weather.

The insider revealed: “This isn’t a holiday camp for the stars, but without a roof, everyone would have been utterly miserable for three weeks, which would not make great telly.”

They added that it would be hard work but will make it bearable for the celebs if it snows in the lead-up to Christmas.

Meanwhile, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Bosses are eager to ensure that the new Welsh location is easily recognised and not too far off the infamous Aussie jungle.

It’s the first time the stars will sleep indoors

While they will be sleeping indoors this year, viewers can revel in the fact that the iconic campfire will still be present for the 20th season.

The stars will sit around and to cook dinners, have chats and face eliminations in an unsheltered part of the castle.

Rumoured celebriies said to be taking part this year are EastEnders’ Jake Wood, Eamonn Holmes and Keith Duffy.
