Jurgen Klopp makes Liverpool contract U-turn and admits he’s changed his mind

Jurgen Klopp has revealed he has not ruled out extending his current contract at Liverpool even further despite hinting in the past that he would leave at the end of it.

The 53-year-old German has been at Anfield since 2015, and recently signed an extension to his deal to keep him at the club until 2024.

Some have suggested he could be tempted to take on another challenge at that point, such as becoming the manager of the national German side.

And in an interview with SWR Sport earlier this year when asked about if he would consider moving back to Germany in the near future he answered: “Definitely to live, after my career. Most likely even to Mainz.”

On how long he’ll remain at Anfield, he added: “Four years in Liverpool.” – which would take him to 2024.

Jurgen Klopp has insisted his long-term future is not yet decided

But speaking to Leeroy Matata of Einfach Fussbal on YouTube, Klopp insisted he could stay on even longer, and added he would take a sabbatical whenever he does eventually leave Liverpool.

“A lot of people ask me this question,” Klopp said on his future. “I have never heard someone ask Pep Guardiola about that but his contract ends next year.

“I’ve got four years left which feels like an eternity in football. A lot can happen during this time. I would assume that in four years I will think about whether to renew or not.

“If I don’t renew, I’ll go on holiday. When I leave Liverpool, I won’t take a new job the next day. That’s for sure. I will take a one-year break after Liverpool.”

Klopp has already written himself into Liverpool folklore by winning a Champions League and Premier League title, and Reds supporters will no doubt be desperate for him to stay as long as possible.
