Chadwick Boseman has been laid to rest near his hometown.

The Black Panther star tragically died on August 28 after a secret four-year battle with colon cancer.

The actor, who was 43, was buried near his South Carolina hometown six days after his death, his death certificate, released on Monday, reveals.

Chadwick, best known for playing the Marvel superhero, died at his home near Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

His cause of death was listed as multiple organ failure with the underlying cause of colon cancer.

He was laid to rest on September 3 at Welfare Baptist Church Cemetery in Belton, South Carolina.

His final resting place is just 11 miles away from his hometown of Anderson.

The people of the town hosted a public memorial to celebrate the star’s life one day after he was buried.

Chadwick, who kept his cancer diagnosis a secret, had surgery to remove colon cancer in 2016, and in March this year had another surgery to remove cancer that had metastasized.

The star’s death came as a shock to his friends and colleagues when it was announced on his social media accounts, with few people outside his family knowing about his diagnosis.

The post read: “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.⁣

“Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.

“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. ⁣

“It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. ⁣

“He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. ⁣

“The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

Since his death, fans have begged Disney bosses not to recast him as King T’Challa in the next Black Panther movie.
