Wolves to smash transfer record with signing of Porto striker Fabio Silva

Wolves are smashing their transfer record with the arrival of teenage Porto striker Fabio Silva.

Silva, 18, is joining the Premier League side in a £35million transfer.

The young forward will ink a five-year deal to further expand the Portuguese contingent at Molineux.

As first reported in Portugal, Silva and his father, Jorge, arrived in Wolverhampton on Friday.

They were photographed with Wolves chairman Jeff Shi having dinner on Friday evening.

He becomes the Europa League quarter-finalists’ first summer signing, after boss Nuno Espirito Santo called for backing from club chiefs immediately after their defeat to Sevilla in Germany.

Silva arrives less than a year after renewing his contract the Estadio Dragao, in a deal which gave him the highest contracted release clause in Portugal at £111million.

His transfer ensures that Porto will be able to stay under the required Financial Fair Play threshold this season, while still allowing them to strengthen Sergio Conceicao’s squad.

Wolves have been desperately seeking another striker, having been heavily reliant on Raul Jimenez throughout last season.

Last year’s £16million summer signing Patrick Cutrone struggled to make an impact after joining from AC Milan, and left for Fiorentina in January, leaving Wanderers short of another central striking option.

Talented teenager Silva, who has previously been linked with a number of Europe’s elite clubs, will help in that regard.

But Wolves will be wary of placing huge expectations on a player who is yet to play for Portugal’s Under-21 side and has just 12 appearances in Portugal’s top tier under his belt.
