Koeman copies strict Guardiola rule at Barcelona training ground

[ad_1]

Ronald Koeman is reportedly reintroducing one of Pep Guardiola’s old Barcelona rules as he looks to make his mark at the Nou Camp.

The Dutchman – who remains a hero in Barcelona having scored the goal which won the club their first European Cup in 1992 – has returned to Catalonia at a decidedly difficult time in the club’s recent history, with captain Lionel Messi still seemingly wanting out.

The former Southampton and Everton boss has been showing his ruthless side already, having ordered the likes of Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal and Samuel Umtiti to leave the club.

Meanwhile Ivan Rakitic, another player informed that he should leave, has already agreed a two-year deal with his former club Sevilla.

As for the players who remain, Koeman is getting tough with them.

Koeman arrives for training at Barcelona

Catalan outlet Sport – citing Catalunya Radio – claim that Koeman has reintroduced a rule demanding that all players report to Barca’s Joan Gamper training centre an hour before each session is due to begin.

Former Barcelona boss Guardiola would ask for similar from his players, with the club’s former midfielder overseeing the most successful period in their recent history as they picked up Champions League trophies in 2009 and 2011.

Barca were hugely successful under Guardiola

Koeman will be hoping that a little of the Guardiola magic rubs off on his current Barca squad, especially in the face of the turbulence caused by Messi, who didn’t report for training on either Monday or Tuesday.

The captain’s father and representative Jorge Messi is now meeting with Barca officials to thrash out the No.10’s future, with a remarkable transfer to Manchester City still on the agenda for the 33-year-old this summer.
