Sarah Harding was ready to sign up to a massive Girls Aloud reunion before she discovered she is suffering from cancer.

The 38-year-old singer made the heartbreaking revelation this week that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and that the disease had spread to other parts of her body.

And the devastating news is said to have been told to her while the singer, alongside co-stars Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Cheryl Tweedy, had been finalising plans for a massive Girls Aloud 20th anniversary reunion.

The ladies – who shot to fame after being put together as a group on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 – are said to have been in discussions since the beginning of last year for a reunion that would have secured them each a reported £4 million.

Plans had been in the works for the group to release new music in 2021, tour the UK, and appear on a string of TV show.

However, the group are now said to be putting plans on hold as they rally around Sarah following her heartbreaking health reveal.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Everyone was hugely excited to announce the comeback later this year.

“Poor Sarah was desperate to make this happen, so her diagnosis has been doubly devastating.

“At the moment, all anyone cares about is that she gets the treatment she needs — the music comes second.

“But for the first time in years, all five girls are back in regular contact — even if under the most heartbreaking of circumstances.”

On Wednesday, Sarah took to social media to share her shock news.

Sarah shared her sad health news online last week

She wrote: “Hi everyone, I hope you are all keeping safe and well during these uncertain times. I’ve not posted on here for so long, thank you to everyone who has reached out to check in on me, it really does mean a lot.

“I feel now is the right time to share what’s been going on. There’s no easy way to say this and actually it doesn’t even feel real writing this, but here goes.

“Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a couple of weeks ago I received the devastating news that the cancer has advanced to other parts of my body.”

The star went on to explain that she was receiving weekly chemotherapy treatment and assured fans she was fighting the disease “as hard as I possibly can.”

Sarah’s Girls Aloud co-stars rallied around her – with Nadine declaring: “I love you! You have always been able to achieve miracles when needed!”

Cheryl shared a broken heart emoji, while Nicola stated Sarah is “so loved and supported”.

And Kimberley added: “My heart is broken. You are so strong and brave and we are with you every step of the way.”
