Marvel fans are urging studio bosses not to recast Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther 2.

Chadwick, who died age 43 on Friday following a secret battle against colon cancer, is best known for playing the lead role in Marvel’s Black Panther film franchise.

After joining Marvel in 2014, Chadwick starred in the first Black Panther film in 2018 and had been set to appear in the sequel which is scheduled for release on May 6, 2022.

Chadwick’s death leaves Marvel having to decide if the film goes ahead and if another actor should be cast in the lead role.

While Don Cheadle took over the role of James Rhodes for Iron Man 2 .

Little is known about the plot of Black Panther 2, but director Ryan Coogler revealed that the film would focus heavily on Chadwick’s character.

He told reporters he was interested in exploring T’Challa’s reign as King and how he adjusts to the throne.

“You know, in the comic books he’s very young when [his father] T’Chaka is killed. In the MCU, he’s a man, you know? And those are two different things. So, you know, in the [books] he was kind of a guy who was a child king, you know?,” Coogler told Screen Rant.

“He got his throne when he was very young. So when you meet him you know you dealing with a guy who’s thirty-four years old who’s been king for a long time.

“So he has a different type of poise and confidence in his position, you know? Whereas, in our film that character is just settling in. So I’d be really interested to see, you know, what kind of king he is with experience and how that affects his performance in the stories.”
