Lionel Messi has reportedly told Barcelona late on Tuesday night that he no longer wants to stay with the club. Messi’s decision regarding leaving Barcelona has put every team in the world on a high alert, including IPL franchises who are racing to dive in the transfer saga of the Argentina superstar.

We all know that Messi switching his football boots for cricket pads may be a leap too far even for him but the IPL teams like Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Kolkata Knight Riders have joined the transfer bandwagon with cheeky social media posts.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took to Twitter to post a picture of Barcelona captain in a Kolkata IPL shirt, asking: “Mr Messi, How about donning the Purple and Gold?.”

Another IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) came up with a cheeky announcement on Twitter, as they tweeted, “ANNOUNCEMENT In light of recent rumors, Delhi Capitals would like to confirm that a bid for #LionelMessi has not been made.”

Notably, Messi has spent his entire career at Barcelona, having helped them scale unprecedented heights, and established the La Liga side as one of the elite football clubs in the world. However, with Messi now having informed Barcelona of his desire to leave, it looks like Argentine star’s time in Catalunya is approaching an end.

Messi’s decision has thrown Barcelona into chaos on and off the field after a disastrous trophyless season that saw two managers sacked and the club humiliated in the Champions League by Bayern Munich.

According to reports in the Spanish media, Messi’s contract runs until June 2021 and is said to have a clause in his deal that allowed him to leave on a free transfer at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
