Ex-wrestling champion Kunal has been arrested with his associate for allegedly attempting to kill Pawan, who had “brutally killed” his uncle 27 years ago, police said on Monday.

Kunal, former national junior wrestling champion, was arrested for attempting to kill the person who was allegedly involved in his uncle’s death 27 years ago in Delhi.

Kunal and his associate Navin allegedly fired at Pawan to take revenge for his uncle’s murder. A bullet grazed Pawan and hit Laxman in the stomach. The injured were admitted to a hospital.

Pawan, who is out on parole in 1993 Sadar Bazar murder case, was along with his friends Sompal and Laxman at Gali Church Wali when two bike-borne men arrived and fired at Pawan at around 5:30 pm.

Delhi Police discovered that Pawan is an implicated in 3 murder and one effort to murder cases, and so it was difficult to ascertain which one of his rivals attacked him. However, the police finally nabbed the former wrestling champion Kunal and his friend Navin for the attack.

Kunal, who won a gold medal in the national junior wrestling championship in 2017, revealed that he along with co-accused Aniket committed the offence and accordingly raids were conducted.

Kunal said his uncle and Pawan had an altercation in 1990, police said. He further told the police that the alleged criminal had killed his uncle in 1993.
