Donald Trump calls Kamala Harris a ‘madwoman’ and ‘so angry’ as he rails against his female ‘enemies’ calling Nancy Pelosi ‘stone-cold crazy,’ saying ‘not smart’ AOC ‘yaps,’ and labeling Mika Brzezinski a ‘ditzy airhead’

President Donald Trump went on the attack against powerful women Thursday morning, labeling vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris a ‘mad woman,’ blasting Speaker Nancy Pelosi as ‘stone-cold crazy,’ calling MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski a ‘ditzy airhead,’ and saying Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is ‘not even a smart person.’

Harris is a new addition to the president’s list of insults – becoming a target after presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden named her his running mate – but Pelosi, Brzezinski and Ocasio-Cortez have frequently felt Trump’s wrath.

President Trump often engages in gender-based attacks on women, particularly his female critics, as a way to attack their intelligence. He also engages in sexist and racist stereotypes such as the ‘angry’ woman.

‘Now you have a mad woman,’ he said of Harris on Thursday during an interview with Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo, adding she was ‘so angry.’

The president has cited her ‘hatred’ of his Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh, who Harris grilled during his contentious confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee that won the former prosecutor praise.

‘She was the angriest of the group and they were all angry. … These are seriously ill people,’ he said.

During the interview the president also predicted Republicans will take back control of the House of Representatives – despite polls that show otherwise – because Pelosi is ‘stone-cold crazy.’

The president’s next attack was on Green New Deal – sponsored by Ocasio-Cortez – and he called the congresswoman a ‘poor student’ and ‘not even a smart person.’

‘AOC was a poor student. I mean, I won’t say where she went to school, it doesn’t matter. This is not even a smart person other than she’s got a good line of stuff. I mean, she goes out and she yaps,’ he said.

Ocasio-Cortez, who shot to national stardom after she won in a surprise primary finish in the 2018 contest, is often attacked by Trump and other Republicans for her liberal views.

Before he called into Bartiromo’s show, he took to Twitter to insult Brzezinski and her husband Joe Scarborough, reigniting his feud with the duo that hosts MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe.’

‘Very poor morning TV ratings for MSDNC’s Morning Joe, headed by a complete Psycho named Joe Scarborough and his ditzy airhead wife, Mika,’ he said, using his moniker for MSNBC.

Trump often goes on the attack on those he feels challenge him, particularly women. He has a history of attacking them for their appearance and has even compared them to animals as part of his way of diminishing their abilities.

The four women he attacked on Thursday are some of his fiercest critics.

Harris, in her debut on the Democratic ticket on Wednesday, blasted Trump for ‘running the economy into the ground’ and for mishandling the coronavirus pandemic.

‘It didn’t have to be this way,’ she noted. Trump touts a strong U.S. economy as one of his greatest presidential accomplishments but it took a hit during the pandemic and has yet to recover.

Trump and Speaker Pelosi have a long history of exchanging sharp personal attacks, including questioning each other intelligence and mental abilities. The two haven’t spoken in nearly a year and their last face-to-face meeting was at the annual State of the Union address in February, when he refused to shake her hand and she ripped up the text of his speech when he finished talking.

Brzezinski has been a frequent Trump critic, calling him an ‘idiot and a moron.’

Donald Trump railed against MSNBC's Morning Joe Thursday morning, claiming the co-hosts and married couple Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are 'psycho' and 'airheaded' respectively

Even as he attacks some women, he courts others. He’s also appointed women to top spots in his administration: Kellyanne Conway serves as a senior counselor to the president and Ivanka Trump serves as an adviser.

President Trump, in the 2016 election, won white women without a college degree by 27 per cent. And he won suburban voters by 4 points.

But polling indicates Biden is closing the gap with women, which has sparked some alarm among Republicans.

A YouGov poll out week found that 37 per cent of women approve of Trump while 57 per cent disapprove. Biden leads Trump overall in national polling on the race.

And a Washington Post-ABC poll out last month found women trusted Biden over Trump on questions of ‘crime and safety’ by a 23 points: 57 per cent to 34 per cent.  Women also said they trusted Biden more on handling the coronavirus pandemic by 28 points.

On Wednesday, President Trump was touting his support among the ‘suburban housewife.’

‘The ‘suburban housewife’ will be voting for me. They want safety & are thrilled that I ended the long running program where low income housing would invade their neighborhood. Biden would reinstall it, in a bigger form, with Corey Booker in charge!,’ the president wrote on Twitter, misspelling the New Jersey senator’s first name by adding an ‘e.’

Republicans have focused their efforts on courting suburban women in recent elections, dubbing them everything from ‘soccer moms’ to ‘security moms’ to ‘Walmart moms’ – although in 2018 the party saw such voters shift to Democrats.

Trump has appealed to the voting bloc through alleged fearmongering and racist language, using the housing issue to make his point.

Trump rowed back on an Obama-administration rule called Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing intended to combat racial segregation in suburban housing last month, and claims that his decision will keep ‘low income housing’ out of such areas. Biden’s campaign says he would reinstate the rule.

Trump’s language has been interpreted as implying he would keep minorities out of the suburbs – while his use of ‘suburban housewife’ is seen as reference to white women. Booker is one of only two Democratic black senators and has no known role in future Biden plans.

The last time Trump tweeted in similar terms, Elizabeth Warren called it ‘disgusting racism.’

On Wednesday the Biden campaign accused Trump of ‘melting down’ in the wake of Kamala Harris’ addition to the Democratic ticket.

‘Donald Trump’s presidency is melting down after his failed, divisive, erratic leadership has cost over 160,000 American lives, tens of millions of jobs, and left the United States the hardest-hit country in the world by COVID-19,’ campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement.

‘He’s only further discrediting himself – and proving that he’s dumbfounded after Joe Biden’s selection of a strong running mate who he himself said not two weeks ago would be a ‘fine choice,” he added.

His attack Wednesday came the day after Biden chose Kamala Harris to be his running mate. She is the first black woman to be named as a vice presidential candidate – a choice that will appeal to both black voters and women voters.

The president also name checks Cory Booker in his tweet, the black senator from New Jersey who is the former mayor of Newark. Booker doubled an affordable housing program in that city as mayor but it’s unclear why Trump charged Biden would put Booker in charge of the issue.

Booker made affordable housing a major part of his presidential platform when he was running for the Democratic nomination and Biden has expressed his support for his plan.

The suburbs have become a key swing area in politics – deciding House race, Senate contests and presidential elections. They have undergone major growth in the past few decades, both in size and diversity. Nearly half of all voters live in a suburb.
