Chandrachurn Singh is back after 20 years
Remember the guy romancing Aishwarya Rai in ‘Haye Mera Dil’, the most popular romantic song from the 2000s? Or Kripal Singh aka ‘Pali’ from Maachis? Well, we are talking about actor Chandrachur Singh, the man who won the Filmfare Best Debut Award for Gulzar’s critically acclaimed Indian period political thriller. After essaying a terrorist in Maachis, the actor soon got typecast as the quintessential side hero in Bollywood films. Films like Dil Kya Kare, Josh, and Kya Kehna are to name a few.
With a handful of forgettable films, the Josh actor eventually disappeared. Where was he, what was he up to, nobody knew and nobody cared much. His Instagram account with merely 1,028 followers is proof.
Chandrachur talks about his phase of disillusionment
The 54-year-old is now back to the screens after two decades. He’s all set to make his digital debut with Aarya, opposite Sushmita Sen, where he plays her on-screen husband. The web series is a family crime thriller inspired by the Dutch series Penoza. In a recent interview with Mid-day, the Josh actor opened up how things went south, his films getting shelved and losing out on a lot of big projects.
The actor got candid about his phase of disillusionment, and how he surrendered to that. He said, “I went through a phase of disillusionment, but a sense of surrender came along soon after. When you’re inducted into the industry with a film like Maachis, your expectations are higher. But I could showcase my abilities based only on the offers that came my way. I am happy with the little work I have done. I didn’t want to sell myself short(sic).”
He revealed that his film Dariya opposite Tabu was shelved soon after it was announced. The actor was also replaced by Rahul Khanna in Deepa Mehta’s Earth.
However, the Kya Kehna actor didn’t lose hope. Talking about his experience while working for an OTT platform, he said, “I am picky and thankfully, I can afford to be that. If my work is not enduring, what’s the point? Today, the OTT boom has put the focus on stories. I loved Ram Madhvani’s Neerja. After a long time, I felt in tune with a filmmaker’s sensibilities (sic).”
Talking further about another promising project that didn’t take off, the actor mentioned he was supposed to work with Sushmita 19 years ago, but even that got shelved.
Sushmita welcomes back Chandrachur, calls him a wonderful human being
Sushmita took to Instagram and shared a video with Chandrachur welcoming him back to acting. In the video, we can see the Former Miss Universe singing Chandrachur’s most popular song ‘Chappa Chappa Charkha Chale’.
She wrote, “Welcome back Chandrachur Singh @singhchandrachur777. Thank you for choosing to grace ‘Aarya’. Your presence has made it sooo soooo special!!! What a wonderful human being & Actor!!”
How long before we see him again? We hope it doesn’t take another 20 years and the actor manages to impress the audience with his rock-solid performance. Are you excited to watch him in Aarya? Let us know in the comments below.
