George Stephanopoulos tests positive for COVID-19, hasn’t had ‘any of the classic symptoms’

“Good Morning America” anchor George Stephanopoulos revealed on the show Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19, two weeks after his wife Ali Wentworth revealed she was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.

While Wentworth, 55, described her experience as “never been sicker,” Stephanopoulos, 59, says he hasn’t had “any of the classic symptoms you’ve been reading about.”

“I’ve never had a fever, never had a cough, never had shortness of breath, never had chills,” he told co-anchors Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan, noting that he feels “great.”

Roberts shared that she had been worried about Stephanopoulos because he didn’t seem like himself. He joked that it was probably due to him broadcasting from home, rather than the illness.

As for actual symptoms, Stephanopoulos noted some lower back pain and one day where he had a diminished sense of smell but “that has really been it,” he shared.

Stephanopoulos has been broadcasting from home after Wentworth developed symptoms.

In updating “GMA” on his wife’s health in early April, he said Wentworth had all the classic symptoms and that they were quarantining at home.

“We are basically acting to the outside world as if we have it. … We are staying inside the house,” he said. “I am the only one who goes in and out. Somebody does have to take care of her. That’s me.”

The couple share two daughters: Elliott, 17, and Harper, 14.
