Model-actor Milind Soman is in discussion about his book ‘Made in India’ these days. In this book, he has also told that in childhood he used to visit the branches of RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh). Sharing memories of those days, Soman wrote in the book that he is very surprised when the Sangh’s connection is linked with communalism.

Soman told in the book that he used to visit the branch or training center at Shivaji Park in Mumbai in those days. His father was associated with the Sangh and believed that going to the Bal Shakha gives a young boy many advantages such as leading a disciplined life, staying physically fit and good thinking. Also, it was something that many young boys in the neighborhood used to do. In the book, Soman also told that his father was associated with the RSS and considered himself a proud Hindu. Although he wrote, ‘I did not see anything that I should be proud of, but on the other hand I did not see anything that could be complained about too much.’

‘My experience is completely different’

According to ‘The Print’, Soman wrote in his book, ‘When I see the propaganda going on in the media about the Sangh branch today, I am really shocked by the way it is accused of being destructive and communal. I am My memories of what used to happen every evening between 6 and 7 pm in our branch of the Sangh are completely different. We used to march there in khaki shorts, do yoga, exercise in the open with traditional things instead of fancy equipment, play games, have fun with peers, sing songs and chant Sanskrit mantras, which we don’t mean Used to know.

‘We used to go trekking’

Sharing another experience associated with the branch, Soman wrote, ‘Sometimes we were taken on trekking to the hills around Mumbai or taking overnight camping trips. We eagerly waited for it and we enjoyed it there. Everything we did there was supervised by a team of well trained people. If they were not there, there would have been some adult people who would have helped there by assuming that they were helping to produce good ‘civilian soldiers’. Young soldiers who will grow up to build a nation with their efforts. Those you can call Desi Scout. Those parents who sent their children there thought that sending the children to the branch was a way to keep them fit and keep them out of trouble. ‘
