Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah controversy: Bapu Ji aka Amit Bhatt apologises to MNS

After producer Asit Kumarr Modi, actor Amit Bhatt, who plays the role of Bapu Ji aka Champak chacha on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has issued an apology to Raj Thackeray’s party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over the Hindi language row.

In his letter Amit Bhatt stated that he follows the script and does what the writers want him to. He wrote in Marathi that he respects the language and is apologetic about his dialogue on the show. A picture of his meeting the MNS members along with the police has also been shared.

In a recent episode of the show, the residents of Gokuldham society end up fighting with each other as they want the ‘suvichar’ to be written on the board in their respective languages. Bapu Ji (Amit Bhatt) resolves this fight by explaining them the importance of all the languages.

Bapu Ji tells the residents how all the languages must be respected as they belong to different cultures and carry a rich history. He also mentions that Hindi is the most spoken language in Mumbai and understood by all, hence they should use it on the society’s board.

The president of MNS cinema wing Ameya Khopkar demanded an apology from the makers for the same. He complained that despite knowing that Marathi is the main language in Mumbai, the show had its own propaganda. He stated that the Maharashtrian actors on the show should be ashamed to support something like this

This made Asit Kumarr Modi quickly clear the air.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is one of the longest running shows of Indian Television. It completed glorious 11 years in 2019.
