Telecom: Reliance Jio develops 5G technology; Sought permission from the government for trial

New Delhi: Reliance Jio has sought permission from the Central Government for the trial of its technology of 5G. Reliance has become the first company in the country to do so. According to sources, if the trial run of 5G technology is successful, then the technology design of Jio 5G equipment can be outsourced to manufacturers through third party.
Jio will do trial of 5G in collaboration with Chinese companies
Jio has decided to rapidly expand its 5G trial run with Chinese company Huawei Technologies, Ericsson and Nokia. Samsung was initially the main equipment supplier of Jio. Reliance has been quietly working on its telecom research and development design and technology for a long time. Reliance bought American company Redisys for $ 67 million to develop 5G technology and IoT.
Airtel has demanded a ban on Chinese companies
So far, European and Chinese companies have been dominant in the matter of 5G technology, Reliance wants to make its place in it. Apart from Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea are working on 5G technology in collaboration with Chinese companies Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei. Since 2018, the government has been focusing on domestic manufacturing of design and manufacturing of telecom equipment. TRAI has passed several proposals to promote local manufacturing. Jio has sought permission for a trial run with Chinese companies, while Bharti Airtel chairman Sunil Mittal has demanded a ban on Chinese companies’ equipment.
