Bangkok: In Thailand’s northeastern city of Korat on Saturday, a soldier barged into the mall and opened indiscriminate fire. 21 people died in it. The attacker took some people hostage in the mall itself. However, Special Forces killed the killer in a 17-hour encounter. There were earlier reports that the attacker managed to escape through the parking lot of the mall. However, Thailand’s Health Minister confirmed the assailant was killed in the encounter.
Attacker showed incident on Facebook live
The attacker did live streaming on Facebook during the firing and took a selfie and posted it on social media. The lieutenant general of the army said that the invading soldier ran away after killing his commander. Some people were seriously injured after being shot at after firing indiscriminately at the mall. The attacker took many people hostage inside the mall. However, the government had called special forces to stop it.
Facebook said it had removed the suspect’s account.
“There is no place on Facebook for people who commit this kind of atrocity, nor do we allow people to praise or support this attack,” a Facebook representative said in a statement.
Blockade the entire city to catch the attacker
According to the police spokesperson, the soldier’s name is Zakrapanth Thomma and he is posted as a Sergeant in the 22nd Army Regional Command. He is a dangerous sniper shooter.
