India vs New Zealand: Shreyas Iyer shines with maiden ODI hundred, KL Rahul

India vs New Zealand 1st ODI: Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer provided a great glimpse of his batting abilities as he hit 11 boundaries and a six on the way to his maiden international hundred in Seddon Park on Wednesday.

Shreyas Iyer hit his maiden ODI hundred on Wednesday as he anchored the Indian innings against New Zealand in Hamilton.

Shreyas Iyer has taken 16 ODIs to get to his 1st 3-figure score in international cricket. With 7 fifties to his name, Iyer’s previous best was 88 which he got as early as his 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Shreyas Iyer stepped up once again when the team was in a spot of bother during the 1st ODI of the 3-match series. Iyer joined captain Virat Kohli when the visitors were in a spot of bother after having lost openers Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal in quick succession after a fifty-plus stand.

Shreyas Iyer got to the hundred in just 101 balls as he anchored the Indian innings after losing partner Virat Kohli after a 100-plus stand for the 3rd wicket.

Iyer hit 11 boundaries and a six as he got to his hundred in the 43rd over. Captain Virat Kohli along with the rest of the dressing room was up on its feet lauding the effort of their middle-order batsman.

Iyer enjoyed a bit of luck as he was dropped 3 times — on 8, 15 and 83 — by New Zealand who were ordinary on the field. Of the 3 dropped opportunities, the one where he mistimed in the 41st over against Mitchell Santner was the easiest but Colin de Grandhomme who rain in from long off wasn’t able to hold on to it.

India were without Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan for the 1st time since the Australia ODIs as the two senior openers were ruled out with injuries. In their absence, India handed ODI debuts to Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw
