Full story of the encounter
Terrorist Adil Dar attacked a CRPF convoy in Pulwama in February last year with an SUV full of explosives. 40 soldiers were killed in it. Sameer Dar, brother of the same suicide bomber, Adil, had boarded three-four terrorists in his truck from Dayala Chak area of Hiranagar sector of Kathua district at 2 pm on Thursday. It is believed that these terrorists had infiltrated into the international border in Jammu somehow. All of them were hiding in a truck and were going to Kashmir from Jammu-Srinagar highway.
At 5 pm on Friday, the truck was passing through the toll plaza, 28 km from Jammu. The constable of Nagrota police station was posted at Bhumraj toll plaza. Two armed personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF were present with them. Bhumraj said- ‘I stopped the truck and asked the driver to open the rear window. In the rear of the truck, I saw that there was a trench in between the sacks. Some blankets are lying around. When I removed the blanket from my stick, I saw some shoes there. When the suspicion deepened, I told the driver to come down and remove the tarpaulin from the rear of the truck.
The driver tried to mislead me by saying that he was carrying boxes of medicines to Kashmir. I climbed the back of the truck with sticks only. Seeing me, the terrorists sitting there started firing. I was shot in the arm and narrowly survived. Hearing the firing, CRPF personnel came close to the truck and the encounter began. Three terrorists were killed in it. Jammu and Kashmir Police DGP Dilbag Singh met the injured Bhumraj in the hospital and praised his bravery. Singh said that the terrorists in the truck belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammed.
The terrorists had bullet proof jackets
5 AK rifles, a US-made sniper rifle and RDX were recovered from the truck. They had wire cutters and bullet proof jackets. They were in the midst of a major attack on the 300 km long National Highway. One of the slain terrorists was probably the top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed. Truck driver Sameer, conductor of the truck and another were arrested.
