IRCTC : Railways is giving travel insurance of Rs 10 lakhs to its passengers for 49 paise. In case of any untoward incident with any passenger, the passenger and his family get the benefit. This can be availed by booking tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). This facility is not for children under 5 years of age.

How can you get insurance?
- Whenever you book a train ticket from the IRCTC website, you will have an option of travel insurance. For this, you only have to pay 49 paise.
- After booking the ticket from IRCTC, a link will be given to fill the details of the nominee through SMS and e-mail on your mobile, by clicking on it, you can directly fill the nominee’s information by going to the insurance company’s website.
- On opening the link given on email or SMS, information of your ticket details such as PNR, name, birth number can be seen on the insurance company page.
- In the page, boxes are made to fill the information of the nominee’s name, relationship with him, age, address etc., details have to be filled in and updated.
How much will be claimed?
- The amount of the claim depends on the loss in the accident. It is divided into 5 categories. In case of permanent disability and death due to accident, a claim of Rs. 10 lakh and in case of total disability is also claimed.
- In case of partial disability in case of accident during train journey, 7.5 lakh rupees and if injured are admitted to hospital, then a claim of Rs 2 lakh is received. In case of death, help of Rs 10 thousand will also be taken to carry the dead body.
