Diplomacy/ No vote on Thursday on EU proposal on revised citizenship law
New Delhi. On the revised Citizenship Act (CAA), India achieved diplomatic success when it was decided that the European Parliament’s proposal on CAA will not be voted on Thursday. Government sources gave this information. Members of six political parties of the European Parliament moved a joint resolution against the CAA of India and termed it as discriminatory.
Sources said that Friends of India dominated the Friends of Pakistan on Wednesday. A source said, outgoing British MEP Shaffaq Mohammed’s efforts to get a resolution passed in the European Parliament against India just before Brexit were unsuccessful.
The government has been saying that CAA is an internal matter of India and it has been adopted by following proper procedure. Sources said that we hope that our view on CAA will be understood by EU MPs with a fair and open mind.
