Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made a special appeal to the North Eastern states as well as non-BJP ruled states regarding the National Population Register (NPR). He said on Monday that you should read this law thoroughly before implementing it in your state, only then should you reach a conclusion about implementing it. He said that NPR is a dangerous sport and it is completely related to NRC and CAA. States should pass a resolution to return it. Mamta Banerjee said these things in a meeting held in the state regarding NPR.
Let me tell you that a few days ago, Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that her state will not participate in the National Population Register (NPR) meeting convened by the Central Government in New Delhi on 17 January. He challenged Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to ‘sack’ the state government for not following the behest of the central government. Banerjee, who has been vehemently opposing the NPR, the Revised Citizenship Act (CAA) and the National Civil Register (NRC), said that the West Bengal government has already put a stop to the process of updating NPR in the state.
Addressing a rally, she said that the Central Government has called a meeting on NPR on 17 January. I will not go nor will any representative of my government attend that meeting. He had said that if I did not attend (the meeting), then here in Kolkata a person (Governor Dhankar) who is a representative of the Central Government, can say that he is sacking my government. He can do this. I do not care it. But I will not allow CAA-NPR-NRC.
