Gen Bipin Rawat : War on terror must go on spree like Americans after 9/11 attack
New Delhi:
Terrorism will remain as long as there are states that sponsor it and the only way to end it is like America after 9/11, India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat said on Thursday, in a warning that was seen aimed at Pakistan.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has said the war on terror is nowhere near an end and in order to put an end to it, the roots of terrorism need to be understood.
Speaking at an event in Delhi on Thursday, General Bipin Rawat said, “The war on terror is not ending, it is something which is going to continue, we will have to live with it, until we understand and get to the roots of terrorism.”
General Rawat also called for the international isolation of Pakistan.
“We have to bring an end to terrorism and that can only happen the way Americans started after the 9/11 terror attack. They said let’s go on a spree on global war on terror. To do that you have to isolate the terrorists and anybody who is sponsoring terrorism has to be taken to task,” the Chief of Defence Staff observed.
The CDS went on to add, “Terrorism is here to stay so long as there are going to be states that are going to sponsor terrorism and they are going to use terrorists as proxies, make weapons available to them, make funding for them, then we can’t control terrorism.”
Gen Bipin Rawat also lauded the efforts of international terror watchdog, Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and said countries sponsoring terrorism must be taken to task.
“Any country which is sponsoring terrorism has to be taken to task. I feel one of the measures adopted is of blacklisting by Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is one good measure. Diplomatic isolation, you have to do this,” Gen Rawat said
