Xiaomi Redmi K20 finally starts getting Android 10 update with MIUI 11 in India, fixes more bugs

It has been a few months since Google released the Android 10 update for its phones and since then, many phones have got the latest version of Android running on them. Most of these phones are the premium flagships and the midrange models are yet to get a taste of the newest Android version. Xiaomi has been doing a fine job with delivering updates this year, with its Redmi K20 Pro receiving the update not long after the Google Pixel devices. The regular Redmi K20 had to wait and now, Xiaomi has started rolling out the new update to this model as well.

Many Redmi K20 users in India have started receiving a new MIUI 11 update that brings the latest security patch, some bug fixes, and most importantly, the Android 10 update. That’s a long wait of almost four months for Redmi K20 users but Android 10 is finally here and it is rolling to the K20 users in batches. As usual, the update is coming via Over-The-Air (OTA) and hence you need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network in order to download the update.

Being an Android release, it weighs 2.2GB and hence, you will need some space to download it. The Android 10 update brings a couple of changes to the aesthetics, of which none will be visible on the Redmi K20 given that it will be covered by MIUI 11 completely. However, what will be visible are the changes to the privacy and location settings. Users can now grant individual apps permission to access location and other parameters of the OS.

The recent update, titled MIUI 11.0.1, also brings the December security patch to the Redmi K20 as well. Some of the reported bugs for MIUI 11 have also been fixed with this update, with the ones related to taking scrolling screenshots and opening the notification settings in the notification shade while in Second Space.

Android 10 also brings a new dark mode and a new gesture navigation system. However, MIUI has had these features for long and hence, the changes that Android brings to the table won’t be visible.
