J&K Administration orders for ‘forfeit’ of sher-e-Punjab police medal from DSP Davinder Singh

Five grenades were seized from the vehicle and raids at the policeman’s house later led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, two pistols and two grenades, besides lakh of rupees.

Earlier on Wednesday, the J&K Police said it has recommended to the government that Singh be sacked from duty.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will soon take over the case.

Naveed Babu was wanted by the police for the murder of 11 civilians, including migrant labourers, truck drivers and fruit merchants, after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution in August.

n Saturday afternoon, a cold winter day, Jammu and Kashmir Police intercepted an i-10 car in Kulgam area, where the cops had laid a nakka. In the car was Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) Davinder Singh with two top Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists.

One of the two terrorists, Naveed Babu, is no ordinary operative. He is number 2 after Riyaz Naikoo, the face of terror in Shopian. Naveed Babu is behind the killings of over a dozen policemen. His latest deadly acts included the killing of non-resident truck drivers and fruit farmers following the Centre’s move to abrogate Article 370.

In a carefully planned operation, the car was intercepted by DIG Atul Goel, an officer who spent years in National Investigation Agency (NIA), before returning to his JKP cadre. Davinder Singh, a decorated officer, was posted in the anti-hijacking unit of Srinagar airport before his arrest.
