Federal and state authorities hit a human trafficking ring by rescuing 35 minors who were missing.
The rescues came in Cleveland, Euclid, Florida, Akron, Mansfield, Miami and Columbus. According to the information, the ages of the minors range between 13 and 18 years. 20% of those rescued were victims of human trafficking.
The United States Marshals Service created a special unit in Northeast Ohio to rescue minors.
“Estamyou are proud to help in Operation Safety Net and I commend the United States Marshals Service for their hard work and dedication in locating these children, ”said Newburg Heights Police Chief John Majoy. “Many times, they do not know they are victims and this operation offers them hope, freedom and security that they would not otherwise have. This is a good example of local, state and federal agencies working together for a remarkable cause. Together we can do the difference”.
If community members have information that helps the US Marshals rescue minors they should call 1-866-492-6833.
