Brewster ‘could return to Swansea’ as Premier League clubs reject Liverpool star

Rhian Brewster could reportedly make a surprise return to Swansea next season after being rejected by several Premier League clubs.

The Liverpool youngster was in inspired form throughout the second half of last season, scoring 11 times in 22 appearances to fire them into the playoffs.

His performances attracted interest from the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, all of whom were keen to take him on loan.

But Liverpool delayed making a decision on the striker, causing all three Premier League sides to go and land other targets.

Brighton are another side interested in taking the 20-year-old on a temporary basis, but The Telegraph report Brewster’s concerns over whether he would start there have led him to reconsider Swansea.

Brewster shares a great relationship with Swans’ boss Steve Cooper, who coached him when he won the Golden Boot in England’s under-17s World Cup win.

If he returned to the Liberty Stadium he would be a guaranteed starter, which would not necessarily be the case at a top-flight side.

Cooper said last week: “If Rhian was to be available I think we’d be in the mix but I don’t think that’s the case at the moment.”

Liverpool are currently said to be toying with the idea of keeping Brewster on as back-up to their first-choice attackers, but are reportedly open to selling him for the right price.

It is thought a bid of around £25million would persuade The Reds to part company with the forward, though they would be insistent on inserting a buy-back clause should he improve dramatically elsewhere.

That said, attracting a bidder in the current climate with that sort of cash for a player unproven in the Premier League is difficult.

As such Liverpool are thought to be weighing up the idea of sending him back to Swansea for the season where he could continue his development and boost his value, though a final decision is still yet to be made.
