A former Premier League footballer is recovering in hospital after being shot in Kingston, Jamaica.
Jermaine Johnson, who played 12 top-flight games for Bolton in the early 2000s, was hit in the abdomen and is recovering in hospital, according to the Jamaica Observer.
The report says Johnson was one of three individuals to be shot along with netball player Nicole Henry and another man known only as ‘Fidel’.
His condition is described as serious but stable.
Police are said to believe the incident is related to an ongoing gang feud.
A car allegedly drove up to the trio, who were sitting in a group, and opened fire.
Johnson, 40, currently plays for Tivoli Gardens in the Red Stripe Premier League in his homeland.
His manager, Phillip Williams, said goalkeeper Edsel ‘Robbie’ Scott had been in contact with Johnson in hospital.
“It doesn’t make sense,” Williams said. “We rushed there [to the hospital] in this time of pandemic but Robbie was there and he said Teddy (Johnson’s nickname) was talking, which was good. We wish him the best.”
Winger Johnson begun his career with Tivoli Gardens in 1999 and moved to Bolton on loan between 2001 and 2003.
He then had two further loan spells at Oldham before moving to Bradford on a permanent deal in 2006.

Johnson spent 18 months at Valley Parade before signing for Sheffield Wednesday for £250,000 in January 2007.
He would spend seven years with the Owls, establishing himself as a fan favourite and helping them to promotion to the Championship in 2012.
In all, he played 231 league games for Wednesday, scoring 25 goals.
The Hillsborough club acknowledged the incident on Twitter, passing on their best wishes.
They posted: “Following reports of an incident in Jamaica involving ex-Owl Jermaine Johnson, Sheffield Wednesday’s thoughts are with JJ and wishing our former player a speedy recovery.”
Johnson made 73 appearances for Jamaica internationally, scoring 12 times.
