Stacey Solomon has defended Gemma Atkinson after the soap actress was targeted by mum-shaming trolls.
The Loose Women panelist stepped in and took on one of the cruel commenters as she rushed to the side of Strictly Come Dancing star Gemma, who faced a barrage of abuse on social media.
The 35-year-old former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star posted a video of herself working out in her home gym, with one-year-old daughter Mia looking on.
Fitness fanatic Gemma was smashing the cross trainer as the toddler watched but what, for some, was a sweet clip, for others it was tantamount to poor parenting and Gemma got it both barrels.
She was told to “take a leaf out of Stacey Solomon’s book” when it comes to parenting as the cruel trolls said that Mia was the “last thing” on Gemma’s mind as she completed her daily routine.
Gemma shared the cruel words on her social media page and Stacey was quick to do the same and leap to the defence of the actress.
Taking the troll head on, Stacey wrote: “Marie, Marie, Marie where do I start.
“It might shock you to know that sometimes just sometimes I might put myself first.”
Stacey continued: “Some days I chose Peaky Blinders over Pepper Pig. Crisp over carrots, and sometimes I just lock myself in the toilet and pretend I am doing the longest poo in the world to get some me time.
“Gemma you are smashing it. Keep being the amazing mum to the woman you are raising.”
Stacey ended her message on a positive not for Gemma and mothers in general: “Hold your head high and take no notice of anyone who tries to drag you down.
“Women supporting women and mothers supporting mothers is so important.”
Cruel commenters online have become more prevalent since Gemma’s profile was raised in recent years and when speaking to Women’s Health, she spoke out about how she now deals with them.
She said that one follower had targeted her and said how ‘fat’ she looked during a re-run of old Hollyoaks episodes.
Gemma said: “For Hollyoaks turning 25 years old, they’ve been re-running some episodes, and they’ve had a week of my episodes, and people have actually DM’d me,” the mum-of-one explained.
“A guy DM’d me, and he said, ‘wow, I never realised at the time, but you were fat in Hollyoaks weren’t you?’
“I went back to him and I said, ‘well, I was 15, so I was chubbier than what I am now, but please, please don’t let your daughter think that that’s your idea of fat… she will have problems for the rest of her life if that’s the case’.”
