Arsenal transfer news: Houssem Aouar latest as Gunners suffer Thomas Partey blow

[ad_1]

Arsenal’s transfer business is yet to really pick up speed this summer.

The Gunners have brought in experienced Brazilian winger Willian following his departure from Chelsea, while they are widely expected to win the race for Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his squad after leading the club to FA Cup glory in his first half-season at the Emirates helm.

Here, we round up the latest Arsenal transfer rumours including a blow in the race to sign Thomas Partey and a twist in Dani Ceballos’ future.

Aouar coy on future

Houssem Aouar is being tracked by Man City and Juventus as well as Arsenal

Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar refused to be drawn on a question regarding his future amid speculation linking him with a move away from the French club.

The Gunners are thought to be one of the sides interested in the 22-year-old, who was earlier this week called up to the senior France squad by Didier Deschamps.

When asked how difficult it would be to leave Lyon without saying goodbye to the fans given the current restrictions on supporters in stadiums, Aouar would not give much away.

“I haven’t left yet. So I haven’t asked this question,” he told L’Equipe.

Manchester City and Juventus are also credited with an interest in the midfielder.

Partey blow for Gunners

A spokesperson for Thomas Partey said the midfielder is onto a good thing at Atletico Madrid

Meanwhile, the Gunners have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

The Ghana international is believed to be one of Arsenal’s key transfer targets but a deal has failed to materialise with the north Londoners unwilling to pay his £45m buyout clause.

And it appears the 27-year-old will not be joining the Gunners this summer after his spokesperson Samuel Zigah poured cold water over recent speculation.

“He can only leave Atletico Madrid when he’s not needed,” he told Football360.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football.

“His position is guaranteed and he will always play. With Arsenal, I’m not too sure. Arsenal fans will kill me.

“I hope that [he stays], and I’m sure money issues will come in, but I hope that whatever he asks for, Atletico will be able to pay.”

Ceballos set to snub Arsenal for Spain return

A return to Arsenal for Dani Ceballos is looking less likely

Dani Ceballos will snub Arsenal in favour of returning to La Liga with Real Betis, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Ceballos spent the 2019/20 season on loan at the Emirates but Arteta on Thursday admitted he was unsure over where the midfielder would be playing his football next year.

The 24-year-old is thought to be keen on returning to Betis, for whom he played between 2014 and 2017 before joining Real Madrid.

Ceballos made 36 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, scoring twice.

Fiorentina have stepped up their interest in Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira with an offer to take the Uruguayan on loan.

Torreira was reduced to a bit-part role in the latter stages of last season having made a significant impact in his first year following his arrival from Sampdoria in 2018.

According to La Stampa via Viola News, the Italian side have offered a loan fee of £7.6m with an obligation to buy the 24-year-old for £16m.

Roma are also said to have an interest in the Uruguay international, who impressed at Sampdoria before joining Arsenal in a £26m deal in 2018.
