Macaulay Culkin celebrates 40th birthday with funny tweets and says it’s time for ‘midlife crisis’ 

Macaulay Culkin turned 40-years-old on Wednesday.

And the beloved former child star used the milestone birthday to playfully remind his fans of their own fleeting youth.

‘Hey guys, wanna feel old? I’m 40. You’re welcome,’ wrote Culkin in a series of hilarious tweets shared with his nearly 600,000 Twitter followers.

Shortly after, he toyed with the idea of entertaining a ‘midlife crisis’ as he asked his fans to send in ‘suggestions’ for what he should pursue.

‘Since I’m 40 I think it’s about time to start my midlife crisis. I’m thinking of picking up surfing. Do you all have any suggestions?’

In a follow-up, Macaulay encouraged fans with ‘photoshop skill[s]’ to send him a mock-up of what his potential surfing venture may look like.

‘Do any of you have photoshop skill? Can you put my head on a surfer so I can get an idea of how cool I’d look?’ 

Despite asking for fans to come through with their edits, Culkin has yet to share any of his favorites to Twitter. 

Culkin came to fame as a child actor in the 80s and most known for playing mischievous eight-year-old Kevin McCallister in the beloved Christmas comedy franchise Home Alone. 

And the actor’s closest pals – and fans – took to social media on Wednesday to wish him a happy birthday.

His goddaughter Paris Jackson shared several flashback photos while pal Sarah Michelle Gellar was one of the first celebrities to take to social media to wish the actor well as she looked back at their friendship.

Paris, the daughter of the late Thriller singer Michael Jackson, said, ‘Happy birthday! I absolutely adore you!’

‘I’ve known you too many years to count but damn you are like a fine wine (although you would prob want to be a Mountain Dew),’ she said on Instagram Stories as she shared a photo of the them together.

Fans flocked to his Instagram page, which he has not updated since February, to wish the icon well.

Seriakovnikolai3098 said, ‘Happy birthday, my idol of childhood!!!!!!!’ while Michaelangelopage added, ‘Happy Birthday Mac. I’ve been a fan of yours since Home Alone ❤️ #Peace.’ 

Culkin got his start in films in 1985 when he had an uncredited role in the TV movie The Midnight Hour. He was barely five years old.

In 1988 he had his first credited role in the TV movie The Equalizer which led to parts in Rocket Gibraltar and See You In The Morning.

In 1989 Mac got his first break played Miles Russell in the John Hughes comedy Uncle Buck with John Candy.

A year later Hughes cast Culkin as the child whose family leaves him behind in the blockbuster film Home Alone.

He played clever Kevin who outsmarts two bumbling crooks.

Macaulay became an overnight sensation as people mimicked his signature hands-on-his-cheeks move.

Next he made Only The Lonely for Chris Columbus, reuniting him with John Candy.

My Girl was another hit in 1991 then came 1992’s Home Alone sequel, Los In New York, another massive success. The Good Son in 1993 was a darker film for the young star about an evil child and it did not fare as well at the box office.

Richie Rich in 1994 was a hit but after that he slowed down his career.

After years of staring in movies he took time off. Later he would admit that his father was both physically and mentally abusive as he played the part of his manager, taking 15 percent of his income. 

In 2003 he popped up as an adult in Will & Grace as a backstabbing lawyer nicknamed Soupy. In 2009 he had a recurring role in Kings then from 2005 until 2010 he provided voices for Robot Chicken.

He had a smaller role in 2019’s Changeland with Seth Green and he was in the TV show Dollface.

His star will rise again when he appears in season 10 of American Horror Story next year for Ryan Murphy. He reportedly will have sex scenes with Kathy Bates.

Earlier this year Culkin, whose brother is actor Kieran Culkin, told Esquire his career is not perfect. 

He mentioned how he bombed an audition for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for director Quentin Tarantino. The actor didn’t reveal what role he auditioned for in the film, which is set in Hollywood in 1969. 

‘It was a disaster,’ Culkin said of the audition. ‘I wouldn’t have hired me. I’m terrible at auditioning anyway, and this was my first audition in like eight years.’ 

‘No matter how much I act like a curmudgeonly old man, it’s still fun to get back in the saddle once in a while and play around,’ Culkin added. 

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood followed fictional Hollywood star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) as he tries to make his way in a changing landscape in the summer of 1969.

He’s joined by his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), as they both learn their new neighbor is none other than Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie).

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood earned just over $141 million at the domestic box office, one of just two original films to earn over $100 million domestic, along with Us ($175 million).

The film was nominated for 10 Oscars, but it took home only two, Brad Pitt’s win for Best Supporting Actor and Best Production Design.

Culkin also revealed in the wide-ranging profile that he’s trying to have a child with his girlfriend Brenda Song.

‘We practice a lot,’ he said. ‘We’re figuring it out, making the timing work. Because nothing turns you on more than when your lady comes into the room and says, “Honey, I’m ovulating.”‘

Culkin and Song have been dating since October 2017, after meeting on the set of their movie Changeland. 

He was  married actress Rachel Miner in 1998 when they were both 18, but they separated in 2000 and divorced in 2002. He dated Mila Kunis for eight years, from 2002 until 2010.
