Chinese company Alibaba has laid off 90 percent of the 350 employees of UC Web’s Indian Units. After the ban on 59 Chinese apps from India, almost all have stopped their service here. According to the Hindustan Times news, Alibaba has trimmed 90 per cent of the 350 people working in UC Web’s offices in Mumbai and Gurgaon. The employees of the associate, manager level and entry level have been informed about the layoffs through video conferencing. These people have been given 30 days notice.

After Google Chrome, UC browser was the most used
UC Web has been working in India since 2009. UC Web UC Browser and news aggregator service runs UC News. A UC Web spokesperson has refused to respond to news of the layoffs. However, he has said that the company has taken this step in view of the government’s instruction to discontinue Chinese applications. Under this, it has stopped the app service.
Alibaba-owned UC Browser has 43 crore active users in the world. Of these, 13 crore are in India alone. Web analytics firm StateCounter says that the UC browser is the second largest browser in India. After Google Crew, most people use UC browser. Its share in the Indian market is ten percent.
On 29 June, the Indian government banned 59 Chinese apps, including Tick Talk, UC Browser, Hello, UC News and V Chat. India took this step after a skirmish between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galvan Valley. In this, 20 soldiers of India were martyred.
