Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Brother Returns Bridal Jewelry to Raja’s Family, Father Reacts to Dowry Return

Tension brews between families after Indore businessman’s wife accused of murder, in-laws told to give back wedding ornaments

In Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, tensions between two families are escalating after it came to light that Sonam was allegedly involved in the murder of her husband, transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. Following this, Raja’s family demanded that Sonam’s family return all the jewelry they had gifted their daughter-in-law at the wedding. In response, Sonam’s family returned the entire jewelry set in the presence of the Raghuvanshi community and the police. However, Sonam’s father has refused to take back the dowry and cash that were given to his daughter.

Sonam’s father has said that he will not take back the dowry given to his daughter. He also added that he is not ready to believe that his daughter arranged her husband’s murder until he meets Sonam and hears the truth from her himself.

It is worth mentioning that on May 20, Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi had gone to Shillong, Meghalaya, for their honeymoon. There, on May 23, Sonam allegedly conspired with her lover, Raj Kushwaha, and his friends to have Raja murdered. A week after Raja’s body was found on June 2, the Meghalaya Police arrested Sonam. Since then, the police have interrogated her twice while she was in remand. She is currently in jail.

Sonam’s brother, Govind, said that Raja’s family had asked for the return of the jewelry they had gifted to Sonam during the wedding on May 11. With the community’s approval and in the presence of the police, all the items were handed back. Before leaving for the honeymoon, Sonam had left all this jewelry at her parental home and had only taken the mangalsutra given by Raja’s family with her. Govind submitted an application to the Rajendra Nagar police station in Indore, and in the presence of the police, handed over all the jewelry to Raja’s elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi. Both Govind and Vipin signed the handover document.

Sonam’s family has not hired any lawyer

After 10 days of police interrogation, Sonam is now lodged in Shillong jail. Along with her, Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi are also in the same jail. Govind said that he has submitted an application to the Shillong Police expressing his wish to meet Sonam, but the police have not responded so far. Govind and his father say they will decide whether to hire a lawyer for Sonam only after speaking with her. Sonam’s father says that if Sonam confesses to being involved in the murder, they will cut ties with her completely, but if they find out it was a conspiracy against her, they will fight the case in her defense.
