Citizenship Law: Police lock toilet, snatch blanket to remove women from protest
The number of women performing at Ghanta Ghar in Lucknow on the lines of Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh is increasing as the day progresses on Sunday. The performance, which began on Friday night, continues even after 70 hours. Even severe cold and dew are not breaking their spirits.
At the same time, the women alleged that the police was harassing them in various ways to remove them from the demonstration. The police locked the women’s toilet and snatched away their blankets and also poured water on the burnt bonfire to avoid the cold. The women sitting on indefinite dharna are accompanied by their children. The women say that some men who are arranging tents etc. have also been detained, while the police are saying these allegations are baseless.
Section 144 applied: Police Commissioner Sujit Pandey has also imposed Section 144 in the Commissionerate area in the fear of adverse impact on the peace system due to the demonstration.
Supporters of citizenship law also reached the protest
These women are sitting on an indefinite strike demanding the government to withdraw the Citizenship Amendment Act. At the same time, on Saturday, some people reached the clock tower in favor of the law, which was returned by the police. Police of several police stations were present here, including Thakurganj, Chowk, Talkatora, Hasanganj and Vikas Nagar.
The women alleged that the men who assisted them were stopped, some were also detained. The women sat on a dharna on Friday amidst fog and cold. The number of women was less at night, but as soon as morning, the crowd started gathering.
Social activist Sadaf Zafar supported the protesters. She also led the protesting women on Friday nights and Saturdays. Burned the candle and registered his protest and took an oath to save the Constitution. They say that when women have the right to vote, they also have the right to question the government.
‘If forced to be removed, women will stage a jail bharo’
In support of the demonstration, the daughter of poet Munawar Rana, Constitution Consul Bachao, the consignor of Desh Bachao, Sumiya Rana and his wife Raina Rana were also seen standing. Fauzia Rana, Pooja and Nisha also supported the performance. Said that this performance will not stop now. If force is removed, women will stage a jail bharo.
On the other hand, on Saturday, a faction in support of CAA also reached the clock tower and started advising women to stop the demonstration. The protest was stepped up by the women returning the people in support. The police administration controlled the situation and returned the supporters.
Women gathered after prayers
In the protest against the CAA, the women have gathered at the clock tower from four o’clock in the evening after the prayers. They also have children with them. Women holding posters in their hands are directly demanding the government to withdraw the CAA law. The protesting women have appealed to DM Abhishek Prakash to cooperate and not suppress his voice.
