MUMBAI: Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and the world’s richest man, met the country’s leading industrialists on Friday. The meeting was attended by Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries and Asia’s biggest emir. Also present were Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, Godrej Group Chairman Adi Godrej and other prominent businessmen. No one joined from Tata and Birla Group. Friday was the last day of Bezos’ visit to India.According to news agency sources, Bezos also sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but it was not possible.
Kishore Biyani also reached to meet Bezos
Amazon did not give any information about what was discussed in the meeting of Bezos at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai with the industrialists of the country. The meeting also included Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh, Future Group founder-CEO Kishore Biyani, Shopper’s Stop BS Nagesh, Unilever’s Sanjeev Mehta, Nestle’s Suresh Narayan and Procter & Gamble’s Madhusudan Gopalan.SBI Chairman Rajnish Kumar from Banking and Finance Sector, Surendra Rosha of HSBC, Kaku Nakhte of Bank of America and Sanjeev Bajaj of Bajaj Finance also attended the meeting of Bezos.
Piyush Goyal had said – Amazon is not doing favor by investing in India
Bezos said on Wednesday that Amazon will export the Make in India product worth 71 thousand crores in the next 5 years. An investment of Rs 7,100 crore will also be made to digitize small-medium businesses. He also praised the people and culture of India. Despite this, has the Prime Minister not been able to meet any government official as well. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal had said on Thursday in an angry tone that Amazon is not doing any favor by investing in India.However, he said that every type of investment is welcome but companies have to follow the rules of the country.
After Goyal’s statement, Bezos said – Amazon’s investment will provide 1 million jobs in India
Bezos did not get a chance to speak before Modi or any other minister. In such a situation, he wrote letters to Indian customers and merchants and posted them on Amazon’s website on Friday. He wrote- Whenever I come to India, my attachment increases. The energy and behavior of the people of India always inspires me. Amazon’s investment will provide 1 million new jobs in India by 2025.
