12-year-old archer airlifted to Delhi after arrow pierces neck during training
12-year-old archer Shivangini Gohain was airlifted to Delhi on Thursday for treatment after she suffered a freak accident during a training session in Dibrugarh, Assam.
An arrow pierced Shivangini’s neck during the training session a day ahead of the commencement of the third edition of Khelo India Youth Games. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) decided to airlift the archer and has assured to extend full support to aid the teenager’s recovery.
The archer was not going to participate in the Khelo India Youth Games 2020, according to the Press Trust of India.
“The archer who met with an accident in Dibrugarh has been airlifted to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi. SAI is bearing all the expenses of her treatment, including air travel and a senior SAI official has been detailed to ensure that she gets the best treatment at the hospital without any problem,” Sports Secretary, R S Julaniya said in a statement.
The younger archer is receiving treatment at the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi under the supervision of Dr. Nayak, the statement added.
Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh, Gopal Jha, meanwhile, wished her a speedy recovery.
“It was an unfortunate incident that an archer got injured while training. The administration has fully supported her and now she has been referred to AIIMS Delhi. I wish for her early recovery so that she can continue her sport,” Deputy Commissioner Jha.
