WATCH: New Zealand’s Leo Carter slams six sixes in an over against Anton Devcich in Super Smash

New Zealand batsman Leo Carter on Sunday became the seventh batsman in the history of cricket to smash six sixes in an over. Carter achieved the feat while batting for his team Canterbury against Northern Knights in New Zealand’s domestic T20 tournament Super Smash. Carter was in destructive touch as he took Knights’ bowler Anton Devcich to the cleaners.

In the 16th over of the Canterbury innings, Carter went all out against left-arm spinner Devcich and slammed six sixes on consecutive deliveries against him to take 36 runs from the over. Carter slammed a sensational 70-run knock off just 29 balls laced with seven sixes and three fours to help his side pull off a 220-run chase with seven balls to spare.

Gary Sobers (West Indies), Ravi Shastri (India), Herschelle Gibbs (South Africa), Yuvraj Singh (India), Ross Whiteley (England) and Hazratullah Zazai (Afghanistan) are the male cricketers who have achieved the feat of hitting six sixes in an over. Yuvraj, Whiteley and Zazai along with Carter are the players to have slammed six sixes in T20s.

Talking about the game, Knights posted a big total of 219 runs on the board, batting first. Opener Tim Seifert (74) and Dean Brownlie (55) slammed half-centuries apiece to put on a 119-run stand for the second wicket after the cheap dismissal of Devcich. The duo provided the base for a big total with their partnership and Brett Hampton’s late cameo of 12-ball 22 pushed the total past the 200-run mark.

In reply, Canterbury were off to a good start as openers Jack Boyle (23) and Chad Bowes (57) posted a 64-run stand for the first wicket. Number 3 Stephen Murdoch was then dismissed on 13 off 12 before Carter and Cole McConchie finished the chase for Canterbury. While Carter slammed an unbeaten 70 off 29 balls, McConchie scored a quickfire 49 off 25 balls. Canterbury won the game by seven wickets.
