Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s former Hollywood Hills home is on sale for just less than $1 million

Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s former Hollywood Hills home, which they rented nearly 30 years ago during their tumultuous relationship, is on sale for $998,000.

The abandoned property, perched on a hill in the iconic Hollywood Heights and ‘full of original character and unique details’ requires major renovating.

Despite its significant state of disrepair, the 2,500-square-foot estate with a lower-level apartment includes a regal staircase, four sets of oversized French doors and a living room ‘with a birds eye view of Hollywood,’ according to its listing.

Perhaps one of the home’s biggest selling points is that it comes with a coveted ‘key to a notable Hollywood landmark: the High Tower, a five-story, 100-foot-tall stone tower that houses an antique elevator built in the style of an Italian campanile.’

Residents, who reside in one of only 18 properties of the High Tower Elevator Assn., have access to a private lift to spare them from trekking up the steep hill, according to the LA Times.

The three-bedroom residence is where the lead vocalist for Hole, 56, and late Nirvana frontman first brought home their daughter Frances Bean after her birth in 1992.

Cobain also wrote the majority of Nirvana’s third and final album In Utero in the home, according to the 2011 documentary Hit So Hard.

It was last sold for $425,000 in 1999, five years after Cobain’s 1994 suicide.

In February, Love commemorated the date of what would have been her late husband’s 54th birthday on Instagram with a quote from the liner notes of the band’s 1992 compilation album Incesticide.

The caption read, ‘At this point I have a request for our fans. If any of you hate homosexuals, people of a different color, or women, please, do this one favor for us -leave us the f*** alone! Don’t come to our shows and don’t buy our records.’

Love also included a message of her own, writing, ‘Happy birthday beautiful boy.’

Accounts differ on when the former couple first met, with many sources remarking that Cobain had first spoken to his future wife after a 1989 show.

Music journalist Everett True later stated that he had personally introduced the couple at an L7 and Butthole Surfers show in 1991.

The couple’s relationship has been the subject of intense coverage, and multiple films and television series centering on the two have been produced since the singer’s passing.

In 1998, a documentary entitled Kurt & Courtney was released and popularized the theory that Love was directly involved in her husband’s death.

In 2015, Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck premiered on HBO and covered the guitarist’s life; his former wife and daughter attended the film’s premiere.

That same year, another documentary film entitled Soaked In Bleach was released to the public, although the feature predominantly focused on the singer’s death.

Upon the movie’s release, Deadline reported that Love had sent cease-and-desist letters to various theaters that screened the feature; no lawsuits were ever filed on her behalf.
