Bengaluru Woman Slaughtered In Bed, Paralysed Husband Lies Clueless Inches Away
70-year-old killed inside home for gold jewellery worth ₹65 lakh; accused caught after returning to crime scene during probe
A horrifying murder inside a quiet neighbourhood in Bengaluru’s Nelamangala has shocked residents after a 70-year-old woman was brutally killed while her paralysed husband lay beside her, unaware of the attack.
The victim, Shobha, lived with her husband Ranganath, who has been bedridden for nearly 15 years due to paralysis. The couple had no children and depended on helpers for daily care.
Discovery Of The Murder
The crime came to light when a physiotherapist arrived for Ranganath’s routine therapy session and found Shobha lying next to him with her throat slit.
Police believe the attack took place around 1:03 AM when the couple was asleep. Due to his medical condition, the husband could neither react nor alert anyone.
Robbery Motive
Investigators confirmed robbery as the primary motive.

- Accused searched house for cash
- Stole nearly 450 grams of gold jewellery

CCTV Helps Crack Case
Police identified the accused as Shivakumar, a wholesale trader.
After committing the crime:
- He escaped on a motorcycle
- Later returned to the house while police were present
- Mixed with the crowd pretending to be a local
- Quietly left again on a scooter
CCTV footage captured both movements, leading to his arrest.
