Police have arrested 25-year-old Piyush Dhamnodiya in connection with the murder of his 24-year-old girlfriend, an MBA student, whose decomposed body was found in his rented room in the Dwarkapuri area earlier this month. Investigators say he killed her after a dispute and then fled the city.
The victim, a second-semester MBA student, was reported missing on February 10 after telling her family she planned to attend a birthday party with her classmate. CCTV footage captured her entering the accused’s flat around 3:30 pm, and the same camera later recorded him leaving alone with a bag.
Residents alerted police when a strong foul smell emerged from the locked rented room days later. When officers forced entry, they found her naked, partially decomposed body wrapped in a blanket.
Police allege that:
During interrogation, the accused reportedly changed his statements multiple times and even claimed he wanted to marry her, though family members said this was untrue.
Police sources say that after the murder:
Investigators are analysing digital evidence, including call records and messages, to establish the full timeline of events.
Police have detained the accused on remand for three days and are continuing the probe into motives, possible necrophilia or assault after death, and the sharing of objectionable content. The post-mortem report is expected to provide further clarity on the exact cause of death and any additional offences.
