A 22-year-old woman in Karnataka’s Bidar district allegedly ended her life after enduring harassment and abuse from her husband’s family, who police say forced her into prostitution and subjected her to continuous mental trauma.
According to her father’s statement to police, she faced daily mental and physical harassment by her in-laws, and was allegedly pressured into prostitution, which caused severe emotional distress.
Incidents of suicide linked to domestic harassment, coercion, and exploitation have previously been reported in Bengaluru and surrounding areas. These cases often highlight the challenges victims face under family pressure, exploitation, or blackmail.
The tragic death of Anjanabai has sparked concern among local residents and rights advocates, who say systemic support for victims of domestic abuse and exploitation must be strengthened to prevent such heartbreaking outcomes in the future.
