In a chilling domestic violence case, a 27-year-old SWAT commando of the Delhi Police was brutally murdered by her husband inside their home in southwest Delhi’s Mohan Garden. The victim, Kajal Chaudhary, was hit repeatedly on the head with a heavy dumbbell during an argument that escalated over financial matters. She later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
Kajal, a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team member recruited in 2022, was reportedly four months pregnant at the time of the fatal assault. Her husband, Ankur, a clerk in the Ministry of Defence, attacked her on January 22, according to police and family sources.
How the Attack Unfolded
Family accounts and police reports indicate that frequent disputes over money and alleged dowry demands triggered the violent incident. Kajal had dialled her brother, Constable Nikhil Chaudhary, during the argument. While she was on the phone with him, Ankur allegedly began the assault, beating her with the dumbbell and hitting her head against a door frame. Minutes later, Ankur informed Nikhil over the phone about the assault.
Kajal was rushed to a hospital in Ghaziabad with severe head injuries. Despite medical efforts, she did not survive and died on Tuesday, roughly five days after the attack.
Arrest and Murder Case Registered
The Delhi Police registered a murder case against Ankur shortly after the incident. He was arrested on the same day and later sent to judicial custody. Investigators are examining all aspects of the case, including potential dowry harassment and financial disputes.
Victim’s Personal and Professional Life
Kajal Chaudhary had served as a SWAT commando with the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, a specialised unit trained for high-risk operations. She married Ankur in 2023, and the couple had a one-and-a-half-year-old son. Her death has shocked the police community and the public alike.
Domestic Violence and Dowry Allegations
In addition to financial disagreements, Kajal’s family has alleged that she faced dowry harassment from her in-laws. Reports suggest that Ankur’s family may have demanded expensive gifts and money, which heightened tensions within the marriage. These claims are part of the ongoing police probe.
