Huge Cache of Gelatin Explosives Found Near School in Almora, Uttarakhand; Probe Launched

161 gelatin sticks weighing over 20 kg recovered in bushes near a government school, triggering a major security alert and bomb-squad operation.

A major security alert was issued in Almora, Uttarakhand, after 161 gelatin explosive sticks were found near a government school in Dabra village. The explosives weighed over 20 kg.

The school principal noticed suspicious packets in the bushes and informed the police immediately.

Area Secured, Bomb Squad Called In

Police teams reached the spot and secured the area. Soon, bomb disposal experts and dog squads from Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar arrived.

  • All explosive sticks were collected safely.
  • The area was cordoned off during the operation.

The explosives were later sealed and sent for forensic tests.

Police Register Case, Form Four Investigation Teams

Almora SSP Devendra Pincha said that a case has been registered under the Explosive Substances Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

He said four teams are now investigating how such a large quantity of gelatin sticks reached the school area. Officers are checking whether the explosives were linked to road workstone quarrying, or any other illegal activity.

Police have urged residents not to panic or spread rumours. They said all angles are being examined and further updates will follow once the investigation progresses.
