How Pakistani Actor Humaira Asghar’s Death Went Unnoticed for Nine Months in Karachi Flat
Humaira Asghar Was Last Seen in Tamasha Ghar
Pakistani actor Humaira Asghar Ali was found dead inside her Karachi apartment on Tuesday, with investigators now believing she may have died nearly nine months ago, in October 2024.
Humaira Asghar’s Body Found After Landlord’s Complaint
Her body was discovered after her landlord filed a complaint over unpaid rent, prompting police to break into the apartment. Inside, they found her in an advanced stage of decomposition. Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, who conducted the post-mortem, confirmed that the condition of the body strongly suggested she had died several months earlier.
Last Call Was Made in October
Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza told Arab News that Humaira’s phone records show her last call was made in October 2024. Neighbours also reported last seeing her alive around September or October that year.
Electricity Was Cut Off
Officials said Humaira’s electricity supply was disconnected in October 2024 due to unpaid bills, and there was no backup power inside the apartment. “She likely died sometime between her last bill payment and the power cut,” an official explained. There were no candles in the home either.
Karachi Neighbours Didn’t Notice Anything
Investigators found that the only other apartment on Humaira’s floor was unoccupied, which is why no one noticed any odour for months. By the time some residents returned in February, any smell had faded. A balcony door was open, and water pipes inside the apartment were dry and rusted.
What We Know So Far
Investigators also noted that food in Humaira’s kitchen had long expired, with rusted jars and spoiled supplies indicating she had been dead for many months. Initially, her family refused to claim her body due to its condition. However, her brother, Naveed Asghar, later came to Karachi and collected her remains after a DNA test confirmed her identity.
Naveed revealed that Humaira had moved from Lahore to Karachi about seven years ago and had grown distant from the family, not visiting them for over a year and a half. He said this explained why their father had initially told authorities that if there was an emergency, she could be buried in Karachi. Naveed also questioned whether police had properly questioned the landlord about what had happened.
