Established by the Modi government in 2015, NITI Aayog replaced the 65-year-old Planning Commission, which was responsible for creating plans related to national development.

NITI Aayog plays a crucial role in formulating strategies for the government’s long-term policies and programs. The Commission’s structure includes a Chairman, who is the Prime Minister, a Vice Chairman, and a CEO, all of whom are appointed by the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Modi chaired the first meeting of NITI Aayog on February 8, 2015.
