“We will do something, but not yet.”
That was the brief statement of the former president Donald trump on Friday when he was approached by a person from the Washington Examiner while he was at a table in the restaurant Grill Room at Trump International Golf Club, West Palm Beach, Florida.
It is not clear if Trump was referring to the impeachment trial that the United States Congress will initiate against him in early February or to what exactly.
Before the exchange could spread, an assistant to the magnate interrupted the meeting.
The day before, on his first day out of the White House, the Republican left his mansion in Mar-a-Lago escorted by a parade of automobiles.
On Thursday he was seen playing in the morning, but on Friday he did not arrive at the space until 1:20 p.m., and went straight to lunch.
Trump’s remarks followed those given at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, shortly after leaving the White House on Wednesday.
“We will be back somehow,” he told his followers before getting on the presidential Air Force One plane for the last time to his private mansion in Florida.
“They have been four incredible years” and “We were not a normal Administration”, were some of his words.
About his successor, Joe biden, who was sworn in that same day, indicated:
“I hope they don’t raise their taxes. And if they do, I warned them ”.
“I’ll be watching (…) have a good life, see you soon,” he concluded.
Trump left the White House for the last time as ruler early Wednesday with his wife, Melania, in the presidential helicopter, Marine One, just hours before Biden’s inauguration.
The previous one was one of the transition protocols that the Republican broke.
Contrary to custom, Trump also did not comment at the airport and headed straight for Mar-a-Lago.
In Florida, there were no rallies and no crowds waiting for him. Although dozens of followers were waiting for him along the road that leads from West Palm Beach, where the airport is, to Mar-a-Lago.
Trump’s entourage did not stop to greet supporters waiting for them at the corner of the road.
“Impeachment” advances in the US Congress
This Friday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumerannounced that the second impeachment trial against the former president for “inciting insurrection” with the assault on the Capitol will formally begin the week of February 8.
This Monday, the indictments or “articles” for impeachment will be sent to the Senate; and on Tuesday, the procedural issues and preparations to carry it out will begin.
Previously, the head of the Republican minority in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, had called for a delay in the impeachment start until mid-February to allow Trump’s defense to prepare.
Schumer said he and McConnell will continue to negotiate the length and format of the impeachment process.
