Alec Baldwin quits Twitter after wife Hilaria accused of faking Spanish heritage
Alec Baldwin has made the decision to quit Twitter amid rumours that his wife Hilaria has faked her Spanish heritage.
Last December, the 37-year-old lifestyle influencer was accused of pretending to be Spanish after it was revealed that her actual name is Hillary – and that she was actually born in Boston, not Majorca.
In a bid to defend herself online at the time, Alec’s wife insisted: “There is not something I’m doing wrong, and I think there is a difference between hiding and creating a boundary.”
Despite her attempts to clear her name, the drama has escalated and has now resulted in Hollywood star Alec deactivating his Twitter account following a hoard of abuse from raging fans.
Taking to the social media platform on Tuesday, the Pearl Harbour star shared his reasons for taking a step back from the limelight in light of his wife’s drama.
“Twitter is like a party where everyone is screaming. Not much of a party,” he penned.
Before adding: “Goodbye for now.”
Alec has continued to defend his wife from what he claimed were ‘spectacularly false’ reports since speculation started to swirl late last year.
However, things took a turn for the worst when The Mom Brain podcaster tried to take control of the situation by telling the world more about her upbringing.
“My whole family call me Hilaria – it always kind of bothered me that neither name sounds good in the other language so I would use one or the other one,” the 36-year-old admitted in a seven-minute rant.
“Yes, I am a white girl. I am a white girl. Let’s be very clear that Europe has a lot of white people in there and my family is white. Ethnically, I am a mix of many, many, many things.
“Culturally, I grew up with two cultures so it’s really as simple as that. There was a lot of back and forth my entire life.”
She went on: “And I’m really lucky that I grew up speaking two different languages and I’m trying to raise my kids, so they speak two languages too. And that’s something very important to me especially having my family abroad.”
“Yeah I’m a different kind of Bostonian but that’s who I am, and you kind of can’t change your background – nor would I want to – I’m really, really proud of who I am.”
Mirror Online have contacted Alec’s representatives for comment.
