Bake Off’s first episode delayed as it clashes with Boris Johnson’s speech

Great British Bake Off bosses were forced to delay airing its highly-anticipated first episode as its timing clashes with Boris Johnson ‘s televised speech.

The hit Channel 4 show was set to kickstart this evening at 8pm, however fans are going to have to wait longer until they get their telly baking fix.

The Prime Minister is set to announce further lockdown restrictions tonight at 8pm in a bid to flatten the curve of rising coronavirus cases.

Mr Johnson has been scratching his head over whether to introduce stricter measures and curfews in recent days as the number of cases continues to climb yet again.

The nation can expect more details on the newly-introduced 10pm curfew on pubs and restaurants, as well as other new announcements.

But although the clash is sure to leave some Bake Off fans up in arms, it’s reported that the hit Channel 4 show’s air time will be pushed back until after Mr Johnson’s speech concludes.

According to one TV broadcaster: “Bake Off will not clash with the PM’s statement. If it airs at 8pm when Bake Off starts, it will be delayed until Boris has finished his address.”

Mirror Online has contacted Channel 4 for comment.

Mr Johnson’s televised address comes just one day after the government’s top scientist warned the UK is on course for 50,000 infections a day next month if infection rates continue to surge.

Today is a packed day for the PM, as he is also set to chair meetings of the government’s Cobra emergency committee and his Cabinet.

He’s also set to make a speech in the House of Commons, before giving a televised speech to the nation tonight.

Meanwhile tonight’s Bake Off episode is set to kick off with a scandal after one contestant knocks their rival’s cake on the floor – causing major drama to take place.

The show will see 12 contestants go head to head to bake six individual cakes and win the hearts of the judges.
