Arsenal transfer round-up: Chambers set for loan as Arteta “open” to additions
[ad_1]
Mikel Arteta will be relatively pleased with this summer’s transfer business.
The Gunners have secured the services of star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for three more years, while Dani Ceballos has returned on loan from Real Madrid for another season.
William Saliba and new signing Gabriel are likely to develop into the long-term defensive partnership that Arteta surely wants, and Willian’s arrival from Chelsea provides further Premier League experience.
However, the Arsenal boss will be eager to get some more deals over the line ahead of a very busy 2020/21 season.
With several high-profile names linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal will hope to welcome some more new faces to north London before the window closes.
Here is the latest transfer round-up involving Arteta’s side.
Arteta ‘open’ to midfield additions
Arsenal boss Arteta says he is open to the possibility of signing additional midfielders in the current transfer window.
The Spanish manager was speaking to the media after his side narrowly beat West Ham United 2-1 on Saturday, noting that additions aren’t vital but that he wouldn’t rule anything out.
He said: “No, I think they’ve been really good since I joined the club [Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos],” he said in his post-match press conference.
“Not only then but also this season, he deserved to play again today but I just wanted to rotate.
“I thought it was a game where we were going to attack the spaces and the way they defended, we wanted to create some situations with Dani there but if we can strengthen the team then we’re going to try and do that. Until the market is gone, everything is still open.”
Mikel Arteta’s Gunners have been starved of title glory for a while now – but things could be changing as a new-look Arsenal side plot a course to success.

Newcastle want Chambers loan move
Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal defender Calum Chambers before next month’s transfer deadline.
Steve Bruce’s side are believed to only be willing to take Chambers on loan in this transfer window.
The report also mentions that the Magpies are keen to sign a defender after missing out on fellow Arsenal man Rob Holding.
While Newcastle appear to want Chambers on loan, it is understood that Arsenal would allow him to leave on a permanent basis for around £12million.
Martinez explains key reason Arsenal exit
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has opened up on the reasons behind his move to Aston Villa.
The shot-stopper had spent over 10 years with the north London club and admitted he wanted a new challenge, plus a guarantee of more game time.
As quoted by the Evening Standard, he said: “I’ve been at Arsenal 10, 11 years fighting for my spot. When I won the FA Cup and the Community Shield, I spoke to my family and said ‘it’s time to have a new challenge’.
“When Aston Villa gave me the opportunity to fight for the spot and play loads of Premier League games and that’s why I decided to come here.
“I trust the process and I trust the manager’s playing style. I truly believe that we can do a good season at Villa.”
